Every CBD oil lists the total CBD in the bottle.
To make oils easier to compare, CBDMSA measures an oil’s strength by the CBD amount in a 0.5 ml serving.

Start With Product Type

Oils, edibles, topicals, and pet products compare differently. This guide keeps the labels easier to read before you shop.

CBD Oils

Compare total bottle mg and 0.5 ml serving strength.

Topicals

Compare total mg, jar size, texture, and scent.

When comparing CBD oils, look at these three label details together.

Total CBD

The full CBD amount in the bottle.

Bottle Size

The amount of liquid in the bottle.

0.5 ml Serving

The easiest way to compare oil strength.

Total MG Means the Full Bottle

The milligram number on a CBD oil bottle tells you how much CBD is in the entire bottle. For example, a 1000 mg CBD oil contains 1000 mg total CBD in the full bottle. That number is useful, but it does not tell you the serving strength.

Total CBD÷Bottle Size=CBD per ml
CBD per ml÷2=CBD per 0.5 ml serving
Simple rule: total mg tells you how much CBD is in the full bottle. CBD per 0.5 ml helps compare oil strength across different bottle sizes.

Same Total MG, Different Serving Strength

Two oils can both list 1000 mg total CBD, but they may not have the same serving strength.

1000 mg Oil

60 ml bottle
16.7 mg/ml
8.3 mg per 0.5 ml

1000 mg Oil

15 ml bottle
66.7 mg/ml
33.3 mg per 0.5 ml

Same total mg does not always mean the same oil strength. Bottle size changes the CBD amount in each 0.5 ml serving.

CBD Oil Strengths

CBDMSA products measures oil strength by the amount of CBD in a 0.5 ml serving.
These ranges are designed to make our oils easier to compare across different bottle sizes.

Light Oils

Up to 7 mg per 0.5 ml
A lighter oil comparison based on serving strength.

Daily Oils

8.3 mg to 10 mg per 0.5 ml
A familiar everyday benchmark for comparing oil labels.

Shop Daily Oils

Strong Oils

13 mg to 17 mg per 0.5 ml
A higher serving strength based on CBD per 0.5 ml.

Shop Strong Oils

Extra Strength Oils

33 mg+ per 0.5 ml
The highest serving strength range in the oil lineup.

Shop Extra Strength Oils
Oil strength categories are shopping guides. They are based on CBD per 0.5 ml serving. Total bottle mg is still listed on each product page so you can compare both the full bottle amount and the serving strength.

Shop by Flavor

Once the strength label makes sense, flavor is the fun part.

Compare the Serving. Pick the Flavor.

Total mg tells you what is in the bottle. CBD per 0.5 ml helps you compare oil strength.

Other Products Compare Differently

The 0.5 ml serving system is for oils. Edibles, topicals, and pet products use different comparison points.

Edibles

Look for total package mg and CBD per piece.

Topicals

Look for total mg, jar size, scent, and texture.

Pet Products

Look for product type, flavor, size, and label details.
